A Dog’s Eye View of the Holidays

Monday, December 17, 2012

When you venture into your basement to pull out those treasured holiday decorations, do you ever wonder what goes on in your pet’s mind? Here is our take on what our pets think about during the holiday season.

I know the holidays are for the humans, but I am certainly enjoying my canine holiday as man’s best friend! My people seem to be in much better moods, and they have put up all sorts of cool things in the house for me to play with – well, play with when they are not looking. They come home with gifts for me that I don’t expect. Just the other day they gave me new treats and chew toys. I didn’t even have to do any tricks to get them!

They also have a lot more people visit the house. Wow – so many great smells and people to love me. And sometimes those people bring canine friends for me to meet! I like any visit with dog buddies, even short ones. The parties are pretty fun, too. I can sneak a cocktail hotdog off the table faster than a blink of an eye. Energy in the room just makes me wag my tail faster and faster. This is so much better than sitting around with my master watching TV.

Having the kids home from school to play with me is awesome. They chase me around the house and we run outside. They grab fresh cookies from the counter on the way out and share one with me, too. They are too busy during school to see much of me, but when they are home it is clear how much they love me. Plus, we hunt for things in the house together. My nose could sniff out some shiny packages that make them scream with glee and shout “presents!” I still don’t know what I did – normally that would be a bad thing to paw out – but they seemed thrilled. It’s good that some of the rules change this time of year.

And whomever’s idea it was to have the holidays include a bunch of big meals is a true genius. I love that I can beg from each of the cousins and get a bit from their plates. There is no five second rule when I am around – I am always in the right spot to catch food as it falls!

A full belly, all the fun toys I can handle – the holidays really are the best!
